I’ve been dreaming about making this piece for a long time and I can’t believe it’s finally real. 

Buttery gold or golden butter? In this case, golden butter. After a few years of homing in on my favorite butters, the final form of this slab chunk hunk was finally molded. The idea popped in my head right before Covid hit, and then during the pandemic-quarantine bubble it was incidentally further formed by absorbing the butter enthusiasm of TikTok creators like Condiment Claire and Tess Madalyn (a watercolor cartoon dream era for me). This one is a condiment butter, as Condiment Claire would say.

It’s a French butter. A soft scalloped badge with a sprinkle of broken diamond salt crystals. The shape (such an ingenious mix of delicate and rustic) isn’t just cosmetic. Darling scallops mean easier slicing, perfect tablespoon servings without literal numerical marks.

I may have had the seed of this idea for years (butter is golden and cute, groundbreaking), but it still took the perfect coalescence of inspiration and experience (eating) to make something that felt true to me rather than something emptily trendy. Oftentimes it’s not that the inspiration is meant to be considered revolutionary, but simply that there’s an effort to make the execution a warm piece of pocketable beauty.

The other attempt I made with this charm was to lean a bit away from mimicking a perfect dollhouse miniature object, and a little bit more towards something that was closer to an allusion.
