HOCl (Hypochlorous Acid) SPRAYS are the best thing I’ve tried lately *knock on wood* (Newsletter No. 23)

Long marketed mainly for postoperative care, piercing care, blepharitis, burn treatment and as a safe cleaning solution for the home and hospitals (i.e. more health than beauty), hypochlorous acid HOCl has recently been rebranded as a hip cure that is in line with the current stage of the Into The Gloss-triggered beauty industry. The era post-10 step routines and of damaged skin barriers. The gentle counselor. The Windex.

What it is: Quoting Briotech, “HOCl is a natural part of our internal defense system, produced by white blood cells. When produced outside the body, HOCl is an electrolyzed, antimicrobial, biocide solution that inactivates pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, spores, and fungi.”*

Because HOCl is a substance that is also naturally produced by our bodies, it fights all the bad stuff without disturbing the universal balance that sets off vengeful super germs.

Purported Benefits:
Wound healing, acne treatment, rosacea treatment, eczema treatment, anti-wrinkle, defense against colds and flus.

What I’ve Seen:
For my face skin—1st of all, it does no harm. 2nd of all, it generally soothes all irritations, in a low key yet revelatory way. It’s subtle yet noticeable, gradual yet instant, effective and appreciated. It calms, rosacea, eczema, dermatitis, and itchy scalp. It does not break me out and seems to reduce acne in that same subtle yet steady kind of way.

For my body skin—I had a skinned knee that was healing so slowly. It wasn’t healing very nicely for months!  It was itchy and bumpy and scabby. As soon as I sprayed it with the Briotech HOCl there were dramatic improvements. It reduced in redness, it shrank, it flattened. Same with my cooking burns, it expedited the recovery time many times over. After I ran out of the Briotech version, I sprayed it with Curativa Bay’s version which continued the nice results. I also use it on random itches and hives and eczema on my body.

The Choices:
Lumion** is the most aesthetically pleasing and smells the most take-me-away-to-the-spa-next-to-sea (and talks about Dead Sea Salts vs just salt)

Briotech seems the most “clinical and scientific” with the most background information and links to scientific journals, explanations about their process and why their HOCl is the most unique. It is the cheapest price per unit out of ones I’ve listed. They explain how they produce their product to be used for institutional sanitation worldwide for hospitals and restaurants. How they “donated it to relief aid clinics in a dozen countries, including Nepal, Haiti, Peru, and India as well as to local charities.”  How it seems to wipe out the pathogen that causes Mad Cow Disease.

Curativa’s vibe is something in between resort spa and doctor’s office. It seems to be the most gentle, which I don’t mind at all. They emailed me after my order telling me they’ve been shipping gallons of it to China for the past few weeks to help fight the Coronavirus COVID-19. “Actually China ordered 750,000 units. Not only is Hypochlorous the best skin health product but also the strongest natural antimicrobial on the planet.”

There is also Tower28 that is also on this miracle spray marketing wagon, but the packaging is quite cute with the fewest details about HOCl so I personally have not tried it.  Although based on reading the reviews, the implication seems to be that it work more or less as well as the others at least in a cosmetic capacity. The price per unit is about the same as Lumion Skin.
